Bovine Colostrum

What is Colostrum?

Colostrum is the powerful nutrient rich “first-milk” a mother produces.  It contains vitamins, minerals, antibodies, immune enhancing molecules and growth stimulating factors. This directly provides the newborn with antibodies or immune cells to fight infection in the beginning months of life, and supplies the blocks for building the newborns own immunity.

Scientists from around the world have conducted extensive studies on Colostrum as a supplement for humans and animals.  The bioactive components have been identified as substances that help reduce alterations in physical forms and function caused by aging. Several components have been shown to aid the body’s response to environmental stresses, such as air pollution and food contaminants. Without these bioactive components, the body has more difficulty to protect itself from the invasion of foreign microorganisms.

Colostrum is rich in

  • bioactive components delivering immune and growth supporting nutrients : Immunoglobulins (IgA & IgG) - antibodies that are generated by the body in response to foreign substances;
  • growth factors (IGF & TGF) – proteins made by the body to regulate cell division & cell survival;
  • Lactoferrin - iron-binding whey protein that is able to destroy pathogens invading the body;
  • Lysozymes - enzymes that attack the protective cell walls of pathogenic bacteria;
  • Lactoperoxidase - an enzyme capable of antimicrobial activity.
