Kava Kava extract (botanical name Piper methysticum) from
the Kava root, has been used for centuries in the South Pacific
Islands to relax. Kava is non-addictive and helps relieve
nervous tension, mild anxiety and disturbed sleep caused by
stress, giving a sense of calmness and well being.
Recommendations For Use:
- To help relieve anxiety and nervous tension (at 1-2 capsules
daily) .
- To help induce a relaxing sleep (at 3-4 capsules one hour
before bed) .
Contra-Indications:
- Kava Kalm should not be used by pregnant or lactating
women. It should not be used in conjunction with alcohol.
Do not use it when driving a motor vehicle or operating
machinery. Most importantly of all keep out of reach of
children.
Adverse Effects of Kava Kalm if Used to Excess:
- It emaciates the body
- The skin becomes dry and scaley, especially the palms
of the hands, soles of the feet, forearms and shins caused
by interference with the uptake and absorption of the B
group vitamins, which is reversible.
- The appetite is lost, sleep disordered, eyes become bloodshot,
pains in stomach, lethargy.
Dosage:
- Adults: Take 1-2 capsules daily with food or as directed.
- To enhance sleep take 3-4 capsules one hour before retiring
to bed.

- WHEAT, GLUTEN, MILK DERIVATIVES, YEAST, SUGAR, CORN, STARCH,
COLOUR, FLAVOUR OR PRESERVATIVES

Kava Kalm
- Became known to Europeans in the 18th Century.
- Kava is prepared from the root of the plant Piper methysticum.
- After drinking Kava it was found to reduce fatigue, quieten
the mind, allay anxiety and produce a pleasant, cheerful
and sociable attitude.
- Used by Polynesians, Melanesians and Micronesians for
ceremonial purposes and social occasions. It was generally
thought that Kava taken judiciously had a beneficial effect
on health.
- The Hawaiians used it to soothe the nerves; induce relaxation
and sleep; for congestion in urinary tract, e.g. chronic
cystitis (acts as a diuretic); for asthma and rheumatism;
and to reduce weight;
- A 1996 randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind study
with 2 groups of 29 patients who received either 100mg of
Kava extract standardised to provide 70mg kavalactones or
placebo, found that kava was effective in reducing states
of anxiety, tension and over-excitedness.[1]
- Effects are reduced when consuming kava with food.
